Humans of Machon Maayan: Domi Bendersky

Domi Benedersky, Santiago, Chile

Maimonides School

Machon Maayan 2018-2019

Why did you choose to attend Machon Maayan?

I chose Machon Maayan because it is a school where you can ask anything and nothing is taken for granted. I came from a school where everything was “you have to do it because it’s what’s right,” but I never understood the why of things. I really wanted to know the answers to my questions—I don’t like doing stuff just to do it.

What’s your favorite quote?

“Everything happens for a reason,” because it’s so true! Maybe you don’t see the bigger picture now, but eventually when time passes, you will realize that everything is for the best and that everything happens for a reason.

Where is your favorite place in Israel?

My favorite place in Israel is Jerusalem. I wouldn’t live there, but it’s so spiritual. I feel like  it makes everything that I’ve learned make sense. If I were to live in Israel, I’d live Modi’in, because it’s so pretty and I love the community.

Who is your favorite character in Tanach?

My favorite character in Tanach is Yosef. He is so relatable: he messes up, but afterwards, he fixes everything. He’s so human. I feel like so many people in Tanach are so perfect, but at the same time, not, because they made mistakes. Yosef is just really relatable and i’ve learned a lot from him.
